Waipukurau Waipawa Sports

Sunny on board today for the kindy ring and encouragement ring but no Briggs. He has had the weekend off from the hard ground.

Sunny won the points prize in the unled kindy ring and then did the 50cm encouragement jump. Needed two goes as this because she was naughty in the first round, bucking Fern off. Much better in the 2nd round.

Jasper won both the 1m class and the 1:10 mini prix today. He was very good.

Korah had a bit of a whoopsie at the practice jump which rattled her rhythm a little. Potter jumped well, just having a little bit of trouble at the treble, finished well.

Max had the last rail in the jump off of the 1m and 4 faults in the  1:10.

Lulu had 2 rails in the 1:20 but jumped well.

CHB A&P Show

Very late start  to the season for us this season with Korah being involved in Secondary School Netball Championships and Sally being involved in Ki o Rahi Secondary School Nationals. The spring has also been terrible - lots of wind and rain, making it difficult to get the equines fit and ready to jump.

Briggs jumped well with just 4 faults (a stop) in the 1:10.

Lulu jumped well; 4 faults in the 1:10 and 4 faults in the 1:20.

Max was a little difficult to manage on the group but jumped well. He had 4 faults in the 90cm and double clear in the 1m.

Jasper jumped a double clear in the 90cm and was 3rd in the 1m Liddy Memorial.

Poter jumped a double clear in the 90cm and was 4th in the 1m Liddy Memorial.

Horse of the Year 2025

Went for the entire show this year. Big week for equines and riders. Two major highlights of the week were Potter winning the 1:10 champ and Briggs qualifing for the Junior Rider final.

Toot started the show in the money, getting 7th in the 1:10 A2 on Monday. He had 4 faults in the 1:10 A2 on Tuesday but had done enough to qualify for the final. On Thursday he had 4 rails in the 1:10 champ, very uncharacteristic of him. Sal admitted to being a little nervous today.

Briggs was double clear in the 1:10 on Monday. He had 4 faults in the 1:10 A2 on Tuesday. On Friday Briggs stepped all the way up to the Junior Rider Qualifier 1:20-1:30 (biggest course he had done with us). We had no expectation of him and he put in the performance of his season having one stop and qualifying 18th for the final! He was not able to back this performance up on Saturday in the final - not completely sound - but very happy with his season.

Lulu had 4 faults in the 1:10 on Monday and 16 faults in the 1:20 on Tuesday. Lulu had 10 rails on Friday in the Junior Rider qualifier. This was a litte unexpected even though Sally rode her a little quick.

Max had 8 faults in teh 1:10 A2 on Tuesday. He had 6 rails in the 1:15 A2 on Friday.

Potter was 9th in the 1:10 on Tuesday. He had 8 faults in the 1:15 on Wednesday. Potter was 1st in the 1:10 Pony Champ on Thursday. Potter had 1 rail in teh 1:15 A2

Jasper had 4 faults in the 1:05 A2 on Wednesday. Jasper had 8 faults in the 1:05 A2 on Thursday and on Saturday they had an unfortunate fall towards the end of the course.

Tommy Sells

Tommy sold this week to a family just out of Dannevirke. Bayly has had many good times on Tommy more recently he has become a little frustrating as he takes unnecessary rails.

Bayly was still riding ponies when she first moved onto Tommy in the December of 2020 before competiting in their first show together in the 2021 New Year. He jumped 1:10's for her giving Bayly plenty of confidence.

Tommy has been very valuable in our stable over the 5 years we have had him.

Taihape Jumping Show

A couple of years since we had been to Taihape because of school camps but these did not clash this week so we ventured to Taihape. We picked up Lulu on the way and left Maggie at home.

Toot had 4 faults in the jump off in the 1:10 in ring 1 and 12 faults in the 1:15 in the first round on Sunday.

Max had 12 faults in the jump off in Ring 1 in the 1:10. On Sunday he did the Junior Rider. Very big course so although he had a number of rails we were pleased with his attitude.

Briggs had 12 faults in the first round in Ring 1 in the 1:10 and was 2nd in Ring 2 in the 1:10 on Saturday and 8 faults in the first round of the 1:10 on Sunday.

Jasper had 4 faults in the first round in the 1m after bucking Korah off before the bell rang and 12 faults in the 1:10 on Saturday and was 4th in the 1:05 on Sunday.

Lulu went double clear (first round with Sally) in the 1m on Saturday.

Tommy had 8 faults in the 1m on Saturday and 8 faults in the 1:05 on Sunday.

Potter had an uncharaceristic weekend, refusing to go much at all. We dind't start him on Sunday. Was not sound.

Potter was 4th in the 1m class with a double clear round and 2nd in the 1:10 on Saturday.

Pongaroa Sports

Pongaroa sports  for Briggs, Toot and Sunny this weekend. Sally decided it will be great for Briggs to go and have a gallop round and he seemed to enjoy it!

Fern had a great morning on Sunny, winning the best rider and the little jump. In the afternoon they did the ponies beginner jump, winning that also.

Briggs wasn't so sure in the first round, the maiden round the ring, but he was third in the open and 2nd in the open leaping. Toot beat him both times.

Toot was great. Second in the open round the ring and first in the open leaping.

Sally also picked up the ride on Monkey. Thank you Rachel Stephenson for entrusting Monkey with Sal. Neither were too sure in the first class, the Maiden round the ring but then got better and better!

Sally enjoyed competing in a few games with Monkey as well. Been a long time since Sal did games!
